Thursday 19th September – Windsurf **** River stour at Wrabness – cloudy start then sunny.
Foil – 19.87 knot max, 18.71 knot ave, 14.20 knot hour, 17.11 knot mile, 59.30 km., 14.88 knot alpha.
Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Storm 6.5.
I headed over to Wrabness again leaving around 9.15 after saying hello to Jay and Maeva who were visiting for the day, with the Orwell Bridge now fully open the journey was pretty easy today with no hold ups:) The day started gloomy and the wind looked fairly marginal when I stopped in Mistley to take a few pics of the boats in the mud and was the only only car at Wall Lane in Wrabness:) I carried my board to the small beach as the sun made an appearance making it feel lovely and warm but the wind looked pretty light out on the river so I rigged my 6.5, the biggest sail I had with me! I was in no hurry to launch so slowly got ready and headed out around 11.30 and had several runs across the river pumping up on the foil a few times but it was a poor start. Then with a few heading out from Bradfield as if by magic the breeze filled in being particularly good in Holbrook bay and had some cracking long runs towards the impressive school as I slowly beat up past Wrabness often bearing off to try and break 20 knots, sadly I did not make it today but had good fun trying:) Again the gybing was going OK and I didn’t go in until late in the session when I was getting tired! My last beat went deep into the next bay which set me up for a cracking long downwind run back getting a nice 17 knot mile, in fact all my stats were slightly up on yesterday:) One beat across the river and another long run down to Bradfield where several wingers and foilers were out. The water was smoother but the wind was up and down so I beat my way back to call it a day was knackered again as I sailed just short of 37 miles today, another great session on the Stour with the highlight being spotting a seal:) I pack up and head for home to spend some lovely time with Maeva who sadly is full of cold:(
