Saturday 14th June – Windsurf ** The Manor at Felixstowe – sunny periods.
Foil – 16.95 knot max, 14.79 knot ave., 4.94 knot hour, 14.24 knot mile, 20.20 km., 6.78 knot alpha.
Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Storm 6.5.
Last night first first lightning appeared at 11 so I walked down to the end of the road in my slippers to watch but it was still a long way off so returned home to get a jumper and umbrella and returned as the sky started to light up, sadly mainly sheet lightning with only a few forks but then the torrential rain arrived and I got soaked walking home. Mag and I then watched the storm pass over, amazing really with over 30.000 lightning strikes! I did get a few OK pics by leaving the shutter open on my camera and hoping for the best! I then posted a few on Facebook and sent them to the TV weather and was lucky enough to get one on BBC Breakfast this morning but didnt get to bed until 2.30!
The forecast looked good for a windsurf foil at The Manor with the ssw starting around 15 knots at ten builing during the day but the wind was a little slow on showing up :( I messaged Al Wiz who lives down by the beach and he said it was building and was looking promising so I decided to head down to Squiz Lane at 11 to check things out, I managed to park OK and wanted to get the session done before high water which was just past 2! Things at this point looked promising so the foil board was quickly set-up along with my 6.5, sadly by the time I had my shortie on the wind had eased back, after a few floundering runs I came ashore and had a chat with Al Wiz who was about to rig 7.5 for his fin board as the wind seemed to be building! So I launched again and did manage a few nice long flying runs out to see a some yachts but sadly the wind eased back as high water approached, so with my heel playing me up, it’s been months now I decided to call it a day, packed up and headed for home to enjoy a cuppa and cake in our lovely little garden just as the wind decided to fill-in! Dead on 4 there was suddenly 20 knots for a few hour as the tide dropped, never mind you can’t win them all :)
