Monday 24th October - Windsurf *** - River Orwell at Levington – sunny periods.

Foil – 18.79 knot max, 17.28 knot ave., 9.69 knot hour, 14.35 knot mile, 50.85 km., 15.15 knot alpha.  

Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Vulcan 6m.

I was tempted by a trip to Point Clear as I haven’t been there for many months but I am not keen on travelling these days, also being half term, the lagoon might have been busy so I decided once again to stay local heading over to the marina at Levington. With high water just before midday I headed over fairly early arriving just past nine, there was loads of water and a good breeze blowing cross on from the right. The foil board was soon on the beach now all I had to do was rig a sail? In the end I went for 6m which proved OK when the wind was up but once again it was pretty patchy:( Robert had now arrived and was rigging his 5.3 as I set off and got some nice gusts straight away but the wind direction was not great today, SW is a good direction here meaning you can do nice long runs down towards Pin Mill but there was a touch of west in it which usually makes it gusty. You ran out of wind if you headed down towards Felixstowe docks so I sailed the other way, beating upriver towards Pin Mill but it was fairly lumpy and you had to wait for a gust sometimes but I tried to gybe when the wind was up and did nearly 90 gybes in the session, only ending in the water once, it is great fun turning a foil especially when using a small sail:) I ran out of wind towards Pin Mill so headed back getting some nice broad runs back to the corner. With the tide now turned the wind filled in for a bit doing some nice runs diagonally getting loads of gybes in the sun:) I had been out nearly 3 hours when the wind eased again so I headed back, pack up, shower and head for home. There was a nasty incident on the way home at the new roundabout in Trimley at the new estate by the Academy where a lorry had run over a cyclist, it did not sound good as we all had to turn round! I am just hoping nobody is seriously hurt!

The wind is looking marginal tomorrow but Wednesday is looking promising:)
