Wednesday 24th February - Windsurf ** - The Manor at Felixstowe – mainly cloudy.

 

Foil – 16.81 knot max, 13.28 knot ave., 4.21 knot hour, 14.16 knot mile, 18.30 km.,6.26 knot alpha.

 

Exocet RF AST 91 with Slingshot Hover Glide 76 with Tushingham Lightning 7m.

 

With no wind forecast for well over a week and having missed out on yesterday’s session I was keen to get out on the water today. I toyed with the idea of heading over to Nacton Shore early to catch the tide but the wind was too light so instead had a morning at home doing my exercises and with the wind building I put my wetsuit on and headed down to The Manor around 11.45 managing to get the last free parking spot in the road. With no other windsurfers there I took my camera and wind gauge to the beach to check the conditions. The southerly wind was light so I had a short walk to the end of the prom as the wind filled in. I then set up my foil and took a chance with my 7m and by the time I was ready to set off I thought I had rigged too big! I was quickly up and flying and had the best run of the session, over three miles downwind to The Dip playing with the swell all the way, great fun and nicely powered. The wind eased as usual when reached Jacobs Ladder and the sea gets bigger and I managed to miss the lobster pots! I did manage to go over the front a couple of times into the cold sea, must concentrate more! I gybed and headed back, flying to The Fludgers before the wind eased back and the session turned sadly into a slog fest:( I had been joined by Andy out with 7.3, he was flying most of the time and I had nowhere near enough sail now! I always need at least one size bigger than Andy so was always going to struggle as the breeze deserted us! I pumped up and had one nice run a mile or so out before floundering back to the beach to call it a day. Looks like the bikes will be well used for several days now!
